SSAFE Grant Guidelines and Application 2009 (Microsoft Word File)

Grant Application Cover Sheet (PDF)

Safe Supply of Affordable Food Everywhere, Inc. (SSAFE) has established a fund to foster innovative approaches and projects that are strongly aligned with its mission and strategy.

With this fund, we seek to support dedicated individuals and organizations working to identify, support and facilitate activities that address the association of animal health, wildlife, agriculture, aquaculture, fisheries and beverages with food safety, human health, plant health, and environmental sustainability on a global basis.

About SSAFE   Incorporated in 2006, Safe Supply of Affordable Food Everywhere, Inc. (SSAFE) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, Public-Private Partnership (PPP) among global food system companies, international non-governmental organizations (NGOs), intergovernmental organizations, and academia. SSAFE's goal is to be a global catalyst to protect the world's food supply chain.

Our Mission  To identify, support and facilitate activities that address the association of animal health, wildlife, agriculture, aquaculture, fisheries and beverages with food safety, human health, plant health, and environmental sustainability on a global basis.

Our Vision   “For all people to have access to a Safe Supply of Affordable Food Everywhere”.

Our Strategy

  • Create and support collaborative platforms that bring stakeholders together to develop science-based strategies to facilitate the production and distribution of safe food
  • To support and promote international science-based Harmonization of Standards such as those referenced in the WTO/SPS agreement i.e. CODEX, OIE and IPPC, as well as ISO 22000, that protect both human and animal health
  • To seek to improve the global food system through Capacity Building (stimulating education and improving local infrastructures) and promoting Social Responsibility through economic growth that conserves the environment and natural resources as well as provides decent employment opportunities
  • To provide a platform whereby there can be alignment of regulators and industry regarding trade issues and food safety on a global basis

Amounts ranging from US $2,500 to US $25,000 will be awarded annually upon approval of the SSAFE Board of Directors to a small number of highly qualified applicants for projects that address issues closely aligned with our mission and strategy.   Examples of projects that have been supported in the past include: leadership training; capacity building; and international workshops (more information can be found at: www.SSAFE-food.org).  Short-term projects (12 months in duration) are preferred.  Priority is given to projects which involve individuals or organizations from emerging economies.
